Kiran Bhaskar, Ph.D.

Principal Investigator

Kiran Bhaskar, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology (Primary) and Neurology (Secondary). He is the Co-Director of the Brain and Behavioral Health Institute (BBHI) at the University of New Mexico. He did his PhD in 2002 and undergone post-doctoral training at University of Iowa and Cleveland Clinic. In 2012 he joined UNM as an Assistant Professor and promoted to Associate Professor in 2018. His work on Alzheimer’s disease started back in 2001 at the University of Iowa and since then he continued his work on understanding the link between brain inflammation and tau pathology, which is continuously funded by multiple NIH grants. In 2019 his team published a paper on developing vaccines against Alzheimer’s disease, which gained national attention, and currently being tested in additional pre-clinical models before clinical testing.
